Spring Back to Life!
The start to Spring has had a frustrating stutter this week! I don’t like the cold. I’m sure you’ve all noticed that I like to have a very snug and warm therapy room. So I’m looking forward to some warmer weather – and I’m sure you are too!
My health tip in this newsletter is around giving your eyes a rest. Most of us spend a good deal of time in front of a computer which can be rather tiring on the eyes. A really good technique – which only takes a couple of minutes – is great at relaxing you and your eyes. It’s called palming and here’s how to do it:
Rub your hands together to warm them up. Then rest your elbows on a table or your desk and place your palms on your cheekbones and relax into them. The palms of your hands are slightly cupped over each eye your fingers are partly interlaced on your forehead. There should be no light, or as little as possible, allowed to enter the eye. Once you are palming, open your eyes and look around to see if you can adjust your hands in such a way as to exclude as much light as possible. Close your eyes and ‘palm’ for 2 to 10 minutes a day. Some questions to ask yourself:
- Do you see blackness, or shapes, lights and colours?
- How do you feel when you palm?
- Do you feel relaxed or spaced after palming?
Start palming today, and do it every day for a week. If you like it, keep going and make it a regular part of your everyday routine.
